Song for a First Child (and any thereafter)

Writing, revising can wait for tomorrow
For children grow up as I've learned to my sorrow.

So fly away, edits.  Drafts, go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.

--with much respect and many apologies to Ruth Hurlburt Hamilton, author of Song for a Fifth Child, originally published in Ladies' Home Journal in 1958.

Technically, this is my mom holding the Pea,
but it's one of my favorite pictures of my little guy.

  2. Sooo sweet! Love the photo! My mom had the original poem hanging when I was growing up. She gave it to me when my daughter was born. Nice memory.

    Thanks for sharing!
