The Blahs

Conversation overhead at my house yesterday:
Hubbykins (seating himself at my laptop): Do you mind if I check my e-mail?

Me:  Nope.

Hubbykins (tippity-tap-typing, grand pause): Ummm....

Me:  What?

Hubbykins:  Is this part of the normal creative process?  To work on three different manuscripts at once?

Me:  YOUR LAPTOP PRIVILEGES HAVE BEEN REVOKED! (Okay, I didn't really say that)
Me (actual thing I said):  Three?  What are you talking about?

Hubbykins:  1..2...3.

Me:  Oh, no, actually two of those are the same thing but one is the rough draft and the second is the more polished draft.

Hubbykins:  And the third?

Me:  (silence)

Hubbykins:  And the third?

Me:  I'm just jotting down ideas and stuff!  I don't know.  Blah!

Anyone else out there caught on Cheaters with another WIP?

  1. absolutely. if i'm not working on it, the ideas are percolating. so i have to get them down while the juice is flowing. :)

tell hubbykins to lay off. you're just normal (well, normal for a writer.)

  2. I think the key phrase there is "for a writer". He also knows my unfortunate inability to effectively multitask.

Where did you get your MFT degree? I'm a recovering licensed therapist. :)

  3. My husband goes nuts seeing all my windows all over the place. I know there are ways around this, but I LIKE having them all opened.

  4. I always get busted for checking blogs and US Weekly when I'm supposed to be writing...I keep trying to convince my husband that it's reasearch, but I don't think he's buying it.

  5. Okay, US Weekly is totally "research" if you're a YA writer.
